Description Antibiotic, Cephalosporin (Third Generation). This drug exerts its actions by binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, and thus causing the inhibition of the third and last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Due to inhibition of the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls, cell wall biosynthesis is also inhibited. Eventually bacterial cell lysis occurs due to ongoing activity of cell wall autolytic enzymes (autolysins and murein hydrolases). With this mechanism of action this drug fights against various bacterial infections.
